Engagement segments: following up on what attendees actually did

What is an engagement segment?

An engagement segment groups event registrants by how deeply they took part, from no-shows to people who stayed throughout and asked questions, so the follow-up matches what each person actually did.

Segmenting registrants by what they did, rather than treating every registration alike, is the difference between a follow-up people read and one they ignore.

Post-event segmentation example

  • Registered, did not attend: send the recording and a short summary.
  • Attended briefly: send the highlights they missed.
  • Attended most of it: send the slides and a relevant next step.
  • Asked a question or stayed to the end: a personal follow-up from sales or the speaker.

Engagement scoring for events

Give points for the signals that matter to you, such as minutes attended, sessions joined, questions asked and poll answers, and set a threshold for each segment. Keep it simple enough to explain: event attendee segmentation only works if the people sending the follow-ups trust it.

Webinar follow-up by engagement

Speed matters as much as segmentation: follow-ups sent the same day get more replies than ones sent a week later. Virtual Event Management Suite segments attendees by what they actually attended, so the follow-up list for your CRM goes to the right people with the right message.
