What is local recording?
Local recording saves a meeting recording to the computer of the person who records it, rather than to the meeting provider’s servers.
Local vs cloud recording
Where are meeting recordings saved? With local recording, on the recorder’s own device, under their control and using their disk space. With cloud recording, on the provider’s servers, which makes sharing easy but puts the content in someone else’s storage. Local recording suits confidential meetings; cloud recording suits teams that share every recording.
How to record a video call
- Tell everyone before you start, and say why.
- Start the recording from the meeting controls.
- Keep the meeting window open until the recording has finished saving.
- Store and share the file according to your company’s retention rules.
Recording consent in meetings
Laws differ: some places require the consent of everyone being recorded, others of only one person in the conversation. The safe practice is to announce the recording, make it visible in the meeting, and let people object or leave. This is general information, not legal advice.
